Hello, my name is Sohaib Rana, I was born and raised in a city that never sleeps, Nope, it’s not the "big apple", its Karachi, Pakistan. Growing up like any kid from that part of the world I wanted to be a professional cricket player. It was not until high school when my dad was diagnosed with CAD and the next thing, I know he was undergoing CABG, followed by a lengthy rehabilitation process. This left a lasting impact on my decision to pursue medicine as a career.
It was the first day at Jinnah Medical and Dental College that I met the greatest joy of my life- my best friend in medical school turned Wife, Rimsha. Together we have moved from Pakistan to United States, and in the process also managed to have 4 lovely kids. We have been living in Arkansas for the last 8 years.
My Initial training had been in surgery, but soon after I relocated to the US, I realized that Internal Medicine here was more diverse and aligned with my career goals, such as having to deal with a comprehensive care with challenges to diagnose and treat wide variety of issues. I also enjoyed the holistic approach needed to work as an IM physician, as well as working in collaboration with other teams and be able to have a broad impact on the community health.
What better place to train at with focus on the community than Conway Regional. When it came to choosing a residency, I thought CRHS had all the tools I was looking for in my training. The hospital system serves a diverse and growing community, which provides a broad range of clinical experiences. Conway Regional offers a range of specialties, which is essential for building a strong foundation. Yet the best thing about this residency program, the hospital and even the city of Conway is, IT’S PEOPLE. The program leadership, the teaching faculty, the administration, the nursing and the ancillary staff are all phenomenal. Work does not feel like work when you enjoy coming to work every day.
Outside of the hospital I love to spend time with my kids, and travel. I have visited 12 national parks so far, and plan to add 2 to 3 every year. I do enjoy hiking and a bit of trekking. I also enjoy listening to music and attending concerts. I absolutely love watching soccer and cricket, lately have started to make my travel plans around games. Hopefully one day I may be traveling for the Razorback games.
