I chose CRHS because I aspire to practice rural primary care and potentially engage in academics part-time. Therefore, I wanted to train in a dedicated rural program. CRHS embodies all the elements of the ideal program for me: strategically located, with hospitals and clinics spanning across rural central Arkansas; a curriculum that allows significant time in rural hospitals and clinics; and highly approachable and friendly faculty and staff. My primary motivation for pursuing a career in medicine stems from being very inquisitive by nature and a deep-rooted desire to help people, particularly in underserved rural areas. This passion also led me to pursue a degree in public health research. During my interview, I knew this program was the perfect fit for me, and since beginning my intern year, I have been extremely impressed with how approachable and knowledgeable the faculty are. They allow you to take the lead while providing steadfast support, including from upper-level residents—a perfect learning environment. We also have amazing didactic sessions that are interactive and discussion-based. The class sizes are small-medium, creating a more personalized learning experience.
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, going on scenic drives, playing pick-up soccer, learning to play the keyboard, playing chess, collecting fountain pens, exploring data science/coding, watching TV shows/science documentaries, and spending time with family and friends.
